The first official NASCAR qualifying lap to go go over 200mph wasn't supposed to happen. The car wasn't supposed to be racing. And the Dodge rep was supposed to listen to his bosses. It was an Chrysler engineering mule. None of these things mattered.

It gets weirder. It involves a deer, a prototype fleet, a creative sheriff and disregard for the hierarchy of corporate decision making.

Based on a true story.

I differ to the folks at allpar.com who write many words on the topic. Sad to say, this was a high mark of factory racing interaction, to go away rapidly as, well, a Charger Daytona.

I want to film the movie.

James Woods as angry Dodge corporate or as the no-fucks-given race rep?

Jeff Golblum as the aero guy. With Bruce Campbell, Drew Barrymore and other afffordable actors. We start filming just as soon as we get hold of a dozen Daytonas and Superbirds.

What's the deal with that art? It's 1970, baby.

I miss hearing Buddy Baker during the NASCAR broadcasts. Back when TNN did the coverage.
